CU Proves Business Acumen
RECOGNITION
North Island Credit Union received a gold-level Eureka Award from the California Council for Excellence, a nonprofit foundation that recognizes the best in business leadership and performance.
The Chula Vista, Calif.-based credit union, with $1.3 billion in assets, is honored for superior performance in key business categories ranging from leadership to customer/ market focus.
The statewide award validates the credit union's strategy of focusing on people-employees and members-to refine business processes to produce world-class business results, says Ken Marion, senior vice president for strategic planning at North Island.
The program uses the same criteria as the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award. "Following the Baldrige criteria takes discipline and rigor, but everyone wants to be part of a winning team. Baldrige is all about achieving excellence for our members and our organization," Marion says.
The credit union adopted the Baldrige template in 1992 as part of a strategy to achieve superior business results by building a culture of continuous improvement.
By doing so, the credit union achieved the highest service satisfaction scores among all financial institutions participating in the American Customer Satisfaction Index survey, a national benchmark.
