ITA Publications Off-The-Press

The following publications were issued by the International Trade Administration in April. Foreign Economic Trends Reports: Each report in the series presents business and economic developments and the latest economic indicators for a particular country. The FET series costs $70.00 a year (foreign mail $17.50 additional).

Latin America Trade Review 1986, A U.S. Perspective: This report provides an annual review of bilateral trading patterns in a region vital to U.S. trade. The publication highlights the importance of bilateral trading patterns at a time when many Latin American countries are confronting continuing debt problems and contracting trade in global terms. At the end of each country study is the name of a Commerce Department trade specialist who can provide practical assistance on export opportunities and problems. The book (stock number 003-009-00503-5) is available for $2.75.

Overseas Business Reports: Each report focuses on one country and includes information on its trade patterns, industry trends, distribution channels, and market prospects for selected U.S. products, as well as other details needed to succeed in that market. The OBR series costs $26.00 (foreign mail $6.50 additional).

The U.S. Engineering Plastics Industry, A Profile: The use of engineering plastics materials began 50 years ago when telephones were engineered from hard rubber and electrical plugs from plastic. This industry report offers a close look at new developments in plastics. New ways to use plastics promise strong growth in this industry. However, new foreign competitors have entered the field. This study looks at the industry from a materials and applications standpoint, providing forecasts and assessments of industry trends. The publication (stock number 003-009-00504-3) is available for $3.00.

U.S. Manufactured Exports and Export-Related Employment: States can identify their "high export' industries from this study, which contains profiles of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and 33 metropolitan areas. Individual tables present estimates of the states' economic activities related to manufactured exports, including the value of shipments, total exports, total employment, and export-related employment. The publication also provides a ranking system to measure and compare the performance of different industries. The publication (stock number 003-009-00501-9) is available for $5.50 per copy.

U.S. Production, Imports and Import /Production Ratios for Cotton, Wool and Man-Made Fiber Textiles and Apparel: This publication presents the Tariff Schedules of the United States Annotated numbers, as revised through January 1987 in several categories of textile imports monitored by the United States and under bilateral agreements. The stock number is 003-009-00506-0, and the price is $8.00 per copy.
