New Mobile CPUs Mean Cheaper Notebooks

Intel today announced its latest Pentium M processors: the 715 and 725. These two processors will fill in the 1.5-GHz and 1.6-GHz slots, which were skipped when the newest Pentium Ms (codenamed Dothan), starting at 1.7 GHz, were announced.

The new chips round out the Intel Pentium M processor line, which also includes the 735, 745, and 755 processors. All these chips are built using Intel's 90nm manufacturing technology and include 2MB of integrated, power-managed Level 2 cache. The new processors also feature a 400-MHz system bus and are compatible with the Intel 855 chipset family.

This is good news for consumers, who will now be able to take advantage of the Pentium M technology in notebooks from desktop replacements to ultraportables, all at more affordable prices.
