Longs' second-quarter indicators are up
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- Longs Drug Stores announced a 3-percent increase in net income on an 11-percent hike in sales for the second quarter ended July 26.
Net income for the period was $15.7 million on $558.7 million in sales. For the six-month period, net income climbed 3 percent, to $30.5 million, on a 10-percent sales increase, to $1.096 billion.
Three new stores opened during the quarter, boosting the chain's unit tally to 253.
