Striding forward - fifth anniversary celebration of Washington, D.C.'s ACT Co. features showcase performance of the play 'Sepia Stages'
Anthony C. MurphyThe black-theater community in the nation's capital celebrates its past and present this fall with Sepia Stages, the showcase performance that culminates the fifth-anniversary celebration of the African Continuum Theatre Coalition (ACT Co). Established in 1989, ACT Co comprises 12 African-American theater companies and more than 500 professionals and supporters who work to bring theater to the local community.
ACT Co's celebration not only features Sepia Stages--a musical revue directed by Helen Hayes Award-winning choreographer Mike Malone that traces the impact of the D.C. Black Repertory Company, the Lincoln and Republic theaters, and people who made important contributions to D.C.'s black stage -- it also includes a town hall meeting on the arts, a symposium on black women in the theater and an anniversary dinner. Events are scheduled for October 2, 13, 19 and 31 at various venues.
