So far so fine SOFA - 'Sculpture, Objects and Functional Art' exhibit of fine art objects by 58 galleries at the Sheraton Chicago Hotel, Oct 20-23, 1994, Chicago, IL
Anthony C. MurphyEsther Saks Fine Art in Chicago is a long-time exhibitor of multimedia fine-art objects, including beaded works by Joyce J. Scott. The roster of Chicago's Carl Hammer Gallery includes self-taught artists Mr. Imagination and David Philpot. The Maurine Littleton Gallery in Washington, D.C., frequently features artists who work in ceramic and glass, including Therman Statom and James Tanner. These galleries are among the 58 galleries from Australia, Canada, France and the United States selected to present innovative three-dimensional works at "Sculpture, Objects and Functional Art" (SOFA), an exposition debuting in Chicago in late October.
Scott's exhibition space for SOFA 1994 includes beaded, mixed-media constructions, some of which address feminist and multiracial issues. SOFA also includes painted glass assemblages and ceramic wall reliefs by Statom and Tanner, respectively, as well as the functional staff-based work of Philpot. All of the artwork is for sale.
SOFA runs October 20 to 23 at the Sheraton Chicago Hotel and Towers.
