Live at the Blue Note. - sound recording reviews
Bill HassonLive at the Blue Note by Duke Ellington (Roulette CDP 7243 8 28637 2 4)--Long live the Duke of Ellington. Seasonally correct for the ages. It's a shame when you can't hear music like this in a club setting. It's so intimate, so personal. And it's a gas. Duke on this occasion, in Chicago, gives his usual display of artistry, and all of the sidemen that we are so familiar with give us a grand display of their musical depths. There are standout performances by everybody on this unissued date.
