Youth speaking to youth
Kristen KempWhen Todd Murray was diagnosed HIV-positive at age 20, he was frustrated by the fact that "no one was talking about it." So he started an online community for young adults living with HIV called Positive Hope.
Looking to expand his reach, the openly gay Murray, now 23, and colleague Danielle Rivera recently launched Hope's Voice, a national organization targeting people age 25 or under, who account for half of all new HIV cases. They have started booking speaking engagements at high schools and colleges. "Hope's Voice is a diverse group of speakers who are asking young adults to take personal responsibility in this epidemic," Murray said. "The message we are bringing is changing lives."
