Colorado one point out of first
For The GazettePHOENIX - The Colorado Gold Kings completed the most successful road trip in franchise history Saturday night with a 6-0 victory over the Phoenix Mustangs.
Mark Gowan made 27 saves and Tom Perry and Mike Rutter had four points each for the Gold Kings, who have won 10 of their past 11 games - including four of five on the road - and closed to one point behind first-place Idaho in the Northern Division.
The Gold Kings scored twice in the opening period on goals by Craig Lyons at 5:09 and Jeff Sirkka at 10:01 off an assist from Perry.
They scored twice in the second period on Terry Ryan's one-timer off a perfect feed from Perry. And Perry registered his fourth assist at 6:40 with a perfect crossing pass to Rutter, whose goal increased the lead to 4-0.
Jason Rushton and Kim Maier scored power-play goals 66 seconds apart midway through the third period.
