Colorado College hires women's basketball coach
For The GazetteKelly Mahlum, an all-American during her playing career at Minnesota's College of St. Benedict in the early 1990s, has been named women's basketball coach at Colorado College, athletic director Joel Nielsen announced Monday.
Mahlum takes over at CC aftera two-year stint as head women's coach at North Carolina's Greensboro College.
She succeeds Julie Soriero, who stepped down from her coaching duties in April to become CC's senior associate director of athletics.
"We identified Kelly Mahlum as one of the young, up-and-coming coaches in women's basketball," Nielsen said.
A native of Sacred Heart, Minn., Mahlum was a four-year starter in basketball at St. Benedict, scoring 1,612 career points and leading her team to an appearance in the NCAA Division III Final Four her senior year (1992-93).
LACROSSE COACH HIRED: David Zazzaro, who guided Colby College to a top-20 national ranking in five of his nine years there, has been named coach of the men's lacrosse team at CC.
Zazzaro takes over the Tigers' helm after compiling an overall record of 70-52 and winning percentage of .574 at Colby.
He was named Division III coach of the year by the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association in 1998.
