This series includes images that focus on the residential sections of Oakland, showing streets, interiors and exteriors of Victorian houses, and everyday life in this city. Of note are scenes of Martin Ryan, and assistant, laboring in a blacksmith shop.Some of the negatives for the Oliver residences might be misidentified. The Oakland, Alameda and Berkeley City Directory, which was consulted as discrepancies were found, lists William Letts Oliver living at 1110 12th Street from about 1886-1896, 1066 12th Street from 1896-1901, and Vernon Heights from about 1902.
