Three short girls, cute as buttons; pure violence music - Japan Night at club - Brief Article
Andy HarrisJapan Night!!! Woo Hoo! Cool tunes, hot Japanese babes and lots of cold brew! I can't even begin to express the joy I felt as we pulled up to the curb outside of the club on Saturday night. Or wait, maybe I can... Scores upon scores of Japanese girls--beautiful, exotic, Japanimation girls--forming a snake-like line which wrapped around the entire establishment. It immediately became apparent that my comrades and I were the only whiteys around for miles, and pretty much the only boys! Add to this the realization that we had some sort of free ticket situation going on, and it was smiles and tropical drinks from there on out.
So what exactly was Japan Night? Must have been four or five bands, all Japanese. Little bar in LA. No English all night, but many polite, drunken foreigners humoring me as I tried to communicate by drawing pictures. Up to this point, every Japanese band I had ever seen sang in English, and that never made much sense to me. Don't they speak Japanese over in Japan? On this night however--being Japan night and all--none of the bands sang in English. There was the Heart Bazaar, whose really cute singer actually tried some English between songs, saying things like "Ohhh, so great to finarry be in Errr-ay!", but for the most part it was me and my little drawings making the Japanese princesses giggle.
This band called Bleach terrorized once they got on stage. Three short girls, cute as buttons; pure violence music. I guess you could describe what they played as hardcore, but I think violence is closer to the truth. As the girls were attempting to answer some of my pictograms after their set, some manager type came and whisked them away into their tour van. "The girls have to get their rest!" claimed the manager, cutting the cutest one off just as she was getting to the funniest of the pictures. At that I was left alone at the curb, pen in hand, heart full of lust for my Asian dream girls as they sped off into the night. Japan Night, I believe, needs to happen more often.
