My Proposal: Nothing But a Gracechild

Kristin Henning

My Proposal: Nothing But a Gracechild by Moses T. Alexander Greene Gracechild Publishing April 2005, $19.95 ISBN 0-972-30810-5

Unusual, eccentric, creative and insightful would all be appropriate descriptors for Moses T. Alexander Greene's debut self-publication. Through an eclectic array of poetry, prose and praise, Greene documents his own struggle back to faith after a journey in the desert of hardships. Although Greene's vignettes originate from a place of pain, the author does not languish there long.

My Proposal moves the reader quickly from despair to hope to knowledge to wisdom and finally epiphany. At the time of greatest revelation, the author learns that it is only by the grace of God that he can find freedom to press beyond a life of hurt and failure. It's only in the "grace place" that he is able to tap into God's divine guidance, break the cycle of self-destruction, and surrender the bitterness and anger he harbors toward God and others.

Throughout the collection, Greene demonstrates an incredible mastery of words for a new writer and often defies conventional grammar, spelling and formatting. Greene's collection has already received considerable notoriety in the Washington, D.C. area, where it is being used as a text in a college and has remained on the Karibu bookstores' best-seller list for many weeks. While Greene's epiphany may not be revolutionary for all of us, his creative presentation is novel, innovative and worth the read.
