CELEBRITY PAIRS

ROSA PRINCE

WE all take them for granted, and many of our favourite stars would not be famous without them.

Now a charity worker, inspired by the work of Princess Diana, has produced an amazing book of celebrity hands and feet to raise cash for landmine victims.

Stars such as Elton John, David Hockney and Ryan Giggs have all contributed to Rebekah Gilbertson's book, Handlines.

Rebekah, 24, from North Wales, had the idea last year after seeing Princess Diana's work in Angola on television.

Diana died before she could write a foreward for the book, which is being produced with her favourite charity, the British Red Cross. But her celebrity friends rallied round when Rebekah asked them to take part and have produced some amazing designs.

Rebekah said: "I contacted lots of celebrities and they were great. They all wanted to try to make a difference.

"I contacted people who use their hands and feet in their work. If Elton John did not have hands he couldn't play piano and without his feet Ryan Giggs could not play football."

Rebekah asked stars like designers Stella McCartney, sporting heroes Tim Henman, Sally Gunnell and Frankie Dettori, dancer Darcy Bussell and singer Joan Armatrading for photocopies of their hands or feet.

Rebekah said: "People interpreted the brief in different ways and came up with some amazing things. Some of them found it a bit difficult to photocopy their feet."

Artist David Hockney did a drawing of his hand, while Stella McCartney came up with a multi-coloured image.

Rebekah said: "People who have lost limbs through landmines have a will to survive and great dignity. We want to help them.

"Landmines cause such suffering. We need to stand together to combat this."

Almost all proceeds from the book, which costs pounds 10 from Phaidon Press, will go to the Red Cross Landmine Appeal to purchase artificial limbs.
