Opportunity knocks - viewpoint - security issues for company van fleet operators - Brief Article
Ian ShawSecurity is rapidly becoming the biggest headache for LCV fleet operators. But the high-profile instances of car-jacking that have grabbed the headlines of late--highly disturbing though they have been--are just the tip of the vehicle crime iceberg as explained in our feature this month (page 14).
Hijacking of goods vehicles has, sadly, been with us for some time. The middle ground, the LCV, is just as rich a target for professional criminals.
Theft thrives on two elements; reward and opportunity. You cannot reduce the rewards the criminal aims for--the value of goods in transit, or the resale value of the vehicle itself. However, you can cut the opportunity by increasing the security of vehicles and premises.
