Navigators tested for N.S. health authorities - Health - Nova Scotia cancer treatment - Brief Article
HALIFAX -- Three Nova Scotia health authorities have hired navigators to steer patients and their families through the maze of cancer treatment, follow-up and support services.
Cancer Care Nova Scotia introduced the one-year pilot Patient Navigation program following consultations with cancer patients, family members, health professionals, community organizations and volunteers. Dr. Len Reyno, an oncologist who travels monthly to the Outreach Clinic in New Glasgow, said his patients are already better prepared for their appointments with:
* information about community and financial supports,
* a better understanding of their disease and how it is affecting them,
* questions they need answered in order to make the right decisions.
The patient navigators are working in Southwest Nova, Pictou County and Guysborough Antigonish Strait. 902-424-5025
