Super Simon sinks Scarlets
TOM PAGEPontypridd 29 Llanelli 24
Simon Enoch was the centre of attention, scoring two tries as Pontypridd got their Welsh Rugby Union Challenge Trophy campaign off to a flyer at Sardis Road.
Pontypridd opened up a lead they were never to surrender when flanker Geraint Lewis went over for the first try after nine minutes.
Although 18-year-old Daniel Rogers replied with a try for Llanelli it was Pontypridd who dominated the first half.
And they were set on their way with centre Enoch's first try when he was on the end of a pass from outside half Crispin Cormack to give the home side a 14-5 advantage 10 minutes before the break.
Pontypridd went into half-time having extended their advantage to 17- 5 with a Cormack penalty.
Llanelli replied with a penalty try when Rogers was held back
But then Enoch launched a two-try blitz within five minutes that sent Ponty on the road to a victory which looked assured when winger Geraint Lewis followed his namesake over the line, with a spectacular 70-yard interception try.
Llanelli looked dead and buried but came back with two tries in four minutes from scrum half Aled Thomas and Darril Williams - but their efforts proved in vain.
