Stant back to punish sad Bluebird pals

Former Bluebirds striker Phil Stant returned to haunt his old club with a devastating first half equaliser.

Nicknamed Stantana by the adoring Cardiff fans, he drew grudging applause after hitting the back of the net.

Left alone in the box, he latched on to a through ball from Grant Brown to score at close range after 18 minutes.

The pounds 40,000 signing got Lincoln back into the game just nine minutes after Cardiff midfielder Jason Fowler grabbed an early lead.

The visitors were caught napping and he hit a superb 25-yard power shot past keeper Barry Richardson.

A minute after Stant's goal Terry Fleming put keeper Pat Mountain under more pressure but his effort went wide.

Cardiff tried to settle down and striker Carl Dale fired off at close range but the Lincoln defence was waiting.

The Bluebirds were dealt a cruel blow when Mountain pushed a safe ball against captain Jason Perry and it sailed behind him for an own goal.

On-loan striker Dion Burton failed to impress when he sliced an easy opportunity to equalise.

Lincoln ensured their first League victory since November 22 minutes into the second half when Gareth Ainsworth hit home a deflection off Stant.
