Black market in seized goods
DANNY CHATFIELDMILLIONS of pounds' worth of cars, drugs, cigarettes and alcohol seized by Customs have been sold on the black market.
Goods confiscated from ferry passengers are supposed to be stockpiled at warehouses but auditors have discovered that some private security firms have sold the contraband.
The breaches were exposed as Customs chiefs were blamed for failing to monitor the private firms properly, according to a National Audit Office report to be published today.
