Hutchence was Never going to marry Paula
Caroline SuttonPaula Yates was dealt another devastating blow last night when it was revealed Michael Hutchence Never planned to marry her.
Before the INXS star was found hanged last month he was said to be ready to tie the knot with his blonde lover in a romantic Caribbean ceremony early in the New Year.
Now Hutchence's mother, Patricia Glassop, has denied the talk of a fairytale wedding. "I can tell you Michael was not going to marry Paula," she said.
Patricia was furious when she heard news of nuptials on the paradise island of Bora Bora, believing Paula had leaked the story to the media herself.
She said that when she spoke to her son about it he told her: "When you hear it from me mum, you'll know it's true."
The Australian rocker's sister also confirmed that he was holding back from slipping a band of gold onto Paula's finger.
Tina Shorr, who lives in Los Angeles, said: "He was definitely not marrying Paula. He told me that over and over and over and he told me that every time there was something in the newspapers.
"He said, 'When you hear it from my lips, when I am standing in front of you, it will be true'."
Paula, 37, who has been counselled in a clinic to get over her grief at Hutchence's death, was plunged into new torment on Friday.
Results of DNA tests confirmed that her real father was TV show host Hughie Green - not Jess Yates, the television religious programme frontman who raised her as his own daughter.
She has also been wounded by her mother Heller Thornton's failure to tell her the truth about Green and allow the DNA tests to go ahead.
Paula's reaction was: "I thought I was at the darkest point of my life and now this."
Friends fear the shock of Hutchence's death, having her childhood beliefs cruelly snatched away, and the marriage rejection could tip Paula over the edge.
Her ordeal has been deepened by severe financial difficulties. There are doubts over whether millionaire Hutchence left a will to secure her future.
She has been forced to sell her story to a newspaper for pounds 200,000 and she is negotiating another deal with Hello! magazine for pounds 200,000.
Paula thought her quest for love was finally over after falling for Hutchence and having his baby, 18-month-old Heavenly Hiraani Tiger Lily.
Her rocky marriage to Live Aid hero Bob Geldof fell apart after 18 years and three daughters when she met the INXS singer.
A messy divorce from Geldof and battles over their children have all added to the turmoil which clouded her early life.
Heller Thornton walked out on her when she was eight and Jess Yates broke her heart when he was sacked from TV in 1974 after it was revealed he was having a steamy affair with a showgirl 31 years his junior.
The former presenter of The Tube and the Big Breakfast was quizzed by police earlier this year after allegations about drugs but no charges followed.
A Hutchence fan has hanged himself with a belt - just like his idol. Father-of-two Clark Pope, in his 30s, was found in his bedroom in Sydney with an INXS record on his stereo.
