pounds 14m Bean film deal for Rowan

Comic Rowan Atkinson is to make a pounds 14million movie of Mr Bean.

And Rowan, written off in America in the 80s for being "too British", has had the last laugh by turning down a string of offers from Hollywood directors - including Steven Spielberg.

Instead, Mr Bean The Movie will be produced by the same British team behind Four Weddings And A Funeral, and directed by fellow funnyman Mel Smith.

The 90-minute movie, which has already been written by Richard Curtis, will chart the bumbling adventures of Mr Bean when he take a trip to Los Angeles.
