Japan, S. Korea hold working-level fishery talks

Japan and South Korea started a new round of working-level talks Wednesday in Tokyo aimed at breaking the deadlock over a new bilateral fisheries agreement, Japanese government officials said.
The two countries are intensifying diplomatic efforts to conclude a new fisheries pact before South Korean President Kim Dae Jung arrives in Japan on Oct. 7 for a four-day visit, the officials said.
The Wednesday negotiations at the Foreign Ministry were attended by senior bureaucrats from the two countries.
