GBP 5,000 for US Civil War relics
John ShawMILITARY heirlooms from an Essex man who rode with the US cavalry during the Civil War are to be sold for about GBP 5,000, writes John Shaw.
A Colt revolver, a 34-inch long sabre and other items belonged to John Carwardine, Lord of the Manor of Earls Colne.
They will be sold at Vosts in Newmarket, Suffolk, on 10 June. The sale follows the death of Nat Sherwood, 73, earlier this year. Carwardine was his great-grandfather.
