Gwyneth's mission impossible
Peter McdonaldGWYNETH PALTROW'S scenes with Michael Douglas in a new movie have left her parents feeling uncomfortable - and it has nothing to do with twists in the plot.
Director Bruce Paltrow and actress Blythe Danner are long-time friends of Douglas, who has watched their daughter grow up.
Now he is playing her evil husband in A Perfect Murder, inspired by Alfred Hitchcock's classic thriller, Dial M For Murder. "It wasn't uncomfortable for me," Douglas revealed, "but it was for Bruce and possibly Blythe. "Gwyneth and I joked about it, it's just funny. You always think of them as the little girl, one of the kids, and then one day she's playing your trophy wife." It is not the first time Paltrow has had to deal with family sensitivities. Her father did not attend the premiere of Great Expectations with her because of her passionate love scenes. She also admits she turned down the porn movie saga Boogie Nights because it would have required extensive nudity which would have "totally flipped out" her grandfather. "I've got to be careful what I do," said the 25 year-old actress, who found starring opposite Douglas unsettling. "It was impossible to regard him as a peer. I always regarded him as my father's friend." No less strange for Paltrow was when producers decided to reshoot the ending of the thriller in which she takes the Grace Kelly role. She was filming Shakespeare In Love in London and the Perfect Murder team had to come here when she could not get away. "It was odd," she said. "I had long hair and I was in Elizabethan costumes. The next I was pulling on this short wig and getting into this little suede skirt."
