Londoner 'smuggled 12,000 people into US'
Kevin SmithA LONDONER said to be the head of the largest human smuggling network in US history has been arrested in Puerto Rico.
Navtej Pall Singh Sandhu is alleged to have organised a network which smuggled more than 12,000 Indians into America, netting GBP 133 million in three years. US attorney general Janet Reno said: "This is the largest alien smuggling organisation ever dismantled in United States history."
The US immigration authority, the INS, said the immigrants, mainly from the state of Gujurat, were first flown from New Delhi to Moscow, then to Cuba, on to Ecuador and from there to Miami, Dallas and Los Angeles.
