Eat, drink, and be merry, men
Ian FletcherTHE SEX divide at Christmas is as wide as ever, with women doing most of the work and men concentrating on eating, drinking and making merry, a new report confirms today.
The seasonal survey by the National Consumer Council finds there is still no sign of New Man when it comes to sharing the chores at Christmas.
However it reveals that both sexes agree the festive season is a time to be with the family. More than two out of three in a survey of 2,000 adults say it is the most important aspect. Next comes eating and drinking, exchanging presents and spending lots of money. However, while men look forward to food, drink, time off work, and parties, women are more likely to mention hard work, cooking and shopping. Half of Londoners the highest proportion of any region mention eating and drinking when asked what Christmas means to them, but only 13 per cent enjoy Christmas shopping in London very much and only 41 per cent enjoy it at all.
