Blackout hits Fulham
Peter GriffithsTHOUSANDS were left without electricity after a power cut blacked out a large area of south-west London early today ,writes Peter Griffiths.
Fire crews rescued people stuck in lifts and dealt with dozens of alarms going off after power was cut across Fulham and Hammersmith.
More than 400 callers jammed London Electricity switchboards and late-night pubs and restaurants were forced to close when they were plunged into darkness. Emergency teams worked through the night to repair a high voltage cable at a substation near Munster Road, damaged at midnight.
