Blair back to explain away troubled times
David ShawTONY BLAIR faced both the Commons and his own back-benchers today to explain away three turbulent weeks which have unsettled the Government, writes David Shaw.
The Prime Minister was making his first appearance of the year at the despatch box and also meeting representatives of Labour's Parliamentary Committee who are expected to report to him on the disquiet.
Mr Blair has been confronted by the biggest challenges yet to his standing with the resignations of Peter Mandelson, Geoffrey Robinson and Gordon Brown's spin doctor Charlie Whelan.
