Fun center cuts prices, adds Bigg attractions

MATTHEW SIMMONS THE GAZETTE

Mr. Biggs' Family Fun Center is heating up the summer with a new low price and a few new attractions.

During the summer, Mr. Biggs offers a full day's admission for $20, which had been the price for a four-hour pass.

Daytime Playtime is another new admission option: It's a family pass for one adult and as many as three children ages 10 and younger. For a $33 monthly fee, children can play in Mr. Biggs' LittleBiggtown from 9 a.m. to noon Mondays through Fridays during the summer. Children can be added to the pass for $3 each, and visitors are $10 per visit. More details can be found at www.mrbiggsffc.com.

"We're trying to get more people to come out and see the place, because I honestly believe there's a paradigm with family fun centers and I don't think it's necessarily a good paradigm," says Kim Shugart, Mr. Biggs' Family Fun Center co-owner.

"People think cheesy and dirty with expensive food, and when people come out to our place they're kind of surprised. We want people to come see it and experience it, because we think once people come once they'll come back."

The Mr. Biggs experience, which includes laser tag, miniature golf, paintball, go-karts, Wazoom (a combination of croquet, shuffleboard and horseshoes) and an imaginative play areas for little kids, now features these new attractions: BattleTech, the CyberDen and the Bigg Time Teen Dance each Friday night.

BattleTech is like a video game on steroids. You control a battle robot while sitting in an egg-shaped pod that's hooked up to a bunch of other pods.

Gamers can view the destruction from the previous battle on a flat-panel display outside the BattleTech game room.

BattleTech, which had been at Qzar Laser Tag, has quickly become one of Mr. Biggs most popular attractions.

The new CyberDen gives Mr. Biggs visitors another gaming option. The CyberDen features 16 computer gaming stations linked on a high- speed network.

Each station is equipped with multiple online games, such as Counter-Strike and the EA Sports line. The CyberDen also has room for users to connect their personal laptops to the network.

Mr. Biggs also has new fun for the teenage crowd.

The Bigg Time Teen Dance is a weekly dance party for teens ages 13 to 19. For $15, teens can dance, play and eat from 7 p.m. to midnight.

The event is held in Shoogie's Studio, a large room capable of comfortably holding more than 400 people. The room is decorated with couches and laser lights, and music plays from KIBT (96.1 FM).

The inaugural Bigg Time Teen Dance drew about 150 teens.

The center is still considering adding a second level to the laser tag facility and adding lasers to the go-karts -- which was tested for one weekend but was canceled because of design issues.

Mr. Biggs is at 5825 Mark Dabling Blvd., near the Rockrimmon exit of Interstate 25.

Hours are 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, 10 a.m.- midnight Fridays and Saturdays and 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Sundays.
