Qdoba's new veggie burrito light on filling, taste
MATTHEW SIMMONS THE GAZETTEQdoba's Signature Grilled Veggie Burrito, prepared with Qdoba's new Garlic Herb Grilled Veggies, may be a new vegetarian alternative, but for those seeking a delicious burrito with substance, look elsewhere. Qdoba's not-so-satisfying burrito is $5.19 before tax.
The thought of a veggie burrito conjures up memories of cheap latenight veggie burritos after Phish concerts.
These hippie-prepared veggie delights -- always delicious and prepared over a Bunsen burner-like stove by the gentleman with dreadlocks and tattered corduroy shorts -- were always significantly cheaper than Qdoba, more satisfying and didn't leave the generic restaurant garlic-butter veggie flavor lingering in your mouth for hours.
The veggie mix of squash, zucchini and red peppers is lightly grilled, which preserves the crisp texture of the vegetables.
They're mixed with Qdoba's Garlic Herb Toss, similar to the generic vegetable flavoring available at many restaurants.
The veggies apparently are in short supply too, as they are outweighed heavily by an abundance of rice and beans, begging the ques- tion, "Can I have more vegetables on my veggie burrito?"
Mooo
You've seen those cows on the billboards.
Today, the bovines will be all over the place as Chickfil-A, the chain that turned a limited animal rights spin into a bizarre publicity campaign, celebrates Cow Appreciation Day.
All three Springs locations (both malls and Powers Boulevard at N. Carefree Circle) will have cow-related events:
10-11:30 a.m. -- Kids make crafts and take photos with the cow
11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. (Mall stores only) Mad Science entertains and gives away prizes
11:30 a.m.-3 p.m. -- Free Mini-Moo stuffed cow with every $6 purchase.
All day -- Meet the cow every hour on the hour to dance, high- five and take pictures; wear cow spots on any piece of clothing and receive a free entree; wear an entire cow costume and receive a free combo meal.
There will be prizes for best moos, best Chicken Dance and best costumes.
The Carefree location will try to break a Colorado Chick-fil-A drive-through record of 160 cars in an hour.
There will be prizes for everyone in line.
