Seve Ballesteros, not invited to the US Open later this month, stormed back to top form in the Deutsche Bank Open in Hamburg yesterday and then launched an attack on the American major.

Revitalised Seve blasted: "I have had two chances of winning the US Open in the past but I've never enjoyed the tournament.

"I won't miss not going there this year. Sure, it's a major, but it's not a good tournament."

The Spanish superstar unleashed a sizzling 66 at the Gut Kaden Club to charge within reach of the pounds 120,000 jackpot by posting a 10-under-par total of 206.

Seve, who lies just two shots adrift of leaders Darren Clarke (68) and Miguel Martin (67) and one behind Colin Montgomerie (69), declared: "That win I've promised this year is getting closer and closer. All parts of my game are good again."
