TOP FIVE EURO CLUBS
Tim MarshTIM MARSH describes his favourite Euro grooves for clubbers planning a city break. lAMSTERDAM Chemistry, Saturdays at Escape, Rembrandtplein 11 Top party crowd, international DJs playing better than usual house, can create a cracking atmosphere at this huge central venue. But be warned: for some reason Dutch bouncers don't like Brits one bit. Make an effort and get there early. lBARCELONA Fellini, Avenida Marques de la Argentera, Estacion de Francia A cringeworthy city unless you're into commercial house and techno. But Fellini is the pick of the crop. Three floors of obvious garage and house.
The gorgeous crowd hangs out on the middle floor with hip-hop and swing. lPARIS Le Gibus, 18 Rue du Faubourg du Temple, 11me Not big, and certainly not stylish, but a clever mix of trance and live acts.
Not what you'd expect in Paris. lBERLIN Kalkscheune, Johannistrasse 2 This place is weird. Classical to Seventies kitsch in what looks like your grandparents' front room. Brilliant. lPRAGUE Caberet DeBauche, in The Roxy Cinema, Dlouha, Prague 1 Heavy drinking, tattoos, headbanging characterise an underground scene here. Cabaret is a hoot, mixing erotic and circus performers with some reasonable tech house.
