A DOZEN south London gipsies who were thrown off a plane after a mass drunken brawl are stranded at a US airport without baggage or money for a second day.

The 12 Irishmen and women say that even if they had the GBP 1,100 each to pay for the flight home to their Lewisham caravan site, no airline would accept the risk of taking them back.

US police sources named 11 of the 12 as Noel and Angela Devlin, Angela and Kat-rina O'Driscoll, their sister Elizabeth and her partner Miles Connor, Josephine Cooper, Tony and Noreen Sanders, Frances Coyle and Patrick Doherty. When they do arrive in Britain, they face not only questioning by Gatwick police about endangering the Airtours flight with their behaviour, but the possibility of a GBP 20,000 legal action for the cost of forcing the Jamaica-bound plane to make an emergency diversion to Norfolk, Virginia. One of the group, described as "a rough lot" by locals in Lewisham, said today: "They wanted GBP 1,111 each to fly us home, and we can't afford that. "We are frightened to move because we have run out of money. We haven't had any sleep, we haven't had a wash, and we can't change our clothes because our luggage went on to Montego Bay."
