Liz backs pet passports
Chris MurphyLIZ HURLEY is adding her backing to the Passports for Pets campaign after her dog was put in quarantine.
The actress and face of Estee Lauder had to put alsatian Nico into kennels for six months after bringing him back from America. She has now urged Tony Blair to introduce the new system as a matter of urgency.
The quarantine system was introduced 98 years ago to prevent rabies spreading in Britain. Under Passports for Pets, animals would be vaccinated against rabies, blood-tested and microchipped six months before being allowed into the UK. Miss Hurley wrote to the Prime Minister: "I hope your Government will ensure that the dawn of the new millennium marks the end of our outdated system." Alex Ross, from the Quarantine Reform Campaign, said: "We are delighted Liz is lending her support."
