SIX OF THE BEST HOTEL GOODIES
MICHAEL HARVEY* A butler is thrown in (not literally) at The Lanesborough in Knightsbridge whose team is on call for anything from walking your dog and unpacking to organising parties and even, on occasion, delivering documents to Paris. Another plus is personalised stationery.
* Take a jog at the St Regis Houston with one of the hotel executives and be greeted afterwards with fresh towel, chilled water and fresh fruit.
Dual-line cordless phones in all rooms, Bijan bath amenities and slippers which are yours to keep are in situ at St Regis hotels in New York, Aspen, Washington DC, Philadelphia and Houston. All rooms at St Regis NYC and on Astor Floors in other St Regis hotels have a butler to greet guests on arrival, assist with unpacking, offer to press clothes as well as complementary shoe shine.
* Fresh fruit, mineral water, chocolates, champagne, flowers, slippers plus VCRs and CD players are available free of charge for regular guests and those who book suites at Inter-Continental hotels.
* Divine Aveda products to scoop into your bag are up for grabs at Millennium Club and Copthorne Connoisseur rooms. For the festive season company chairman Kwek Leng Beng is offering selected business guests a CD (no, it's not him singing but a selection of popular easy- listening tunes) and a collection of Travelman short stories in pamphlet form.
* Penhaligon toiletries, towelling robes and the ubiquitous trouser press are available at Heritage Hotels. Extras include complementary wine, laundry and shoe shine.
* The three-star Best Western hotels provide little rubber ducks for guests. With the hotel's number on it, they're cuter than a business card but won't fit in your wallet. Drinks and biscuits are standard on the hospitality tray and some three-star hotels even include CD players.
