Solomon D. Trujillo, US WEST Inc., EXCEL Award Recipient - Brief Article

CEO, chairman and president of US WEST, Inc., Solomon D. Trujillo is this year's selection to receive the EXCEL award, IABC's highest honor given to a nonmember. Under Trujillo's leadership, US WEST has been transformed from that of a main-line provider of telephone-based services to a responsive communication company.

"Sol Trujillo can be defined by this transformation. He has pioneered the advancement of US WEST by embracing an open, honest and direct communication strategy," says David S. Goldberg, APR, ABC, director, Olympics Public Relations, Denver, Cob. "His reliance on and belief in communication are simple. Says Trujillo 'You don't get anything done unless you communicate.'"

US WEST provides a full range of telecommunication services, including wireline, wireless PCs, data networking, directory and information services to more than 25 million customers nationally and in 14 western and midwestern states. The corporate headquarters are in Denver, Colo.

Trujillo will accept his award at IABC's international conference to be held in Vancouver, B.C., June 25-28.

The EXCEL award is given to a nonmember, frequently a CEO, who leads the way in fostering and participating in good comunication. EXCEL award winners support communication and public relations, and their organizations reflect that support in their outstanding communication work.
