Yamaha starts production of 102-cc motorbike in Vietnam
TOKYO, Oct. 7 Kyodo Japanese motorcycle maker Yamaha Motor Co. said Thursday its Vietnamese joint venture has started mass production of a four-stroke, 102-cc motorcycle.
Yamaha Motor Vietnam Co. plans to produce 3,000 units of the SIRIUS model by the end of this year and turn out 20,000 units in 2000, Yamaha said in a press release.
Capitalized at 24.25 million U.S. dollars, Yamaha Motor Vietnam is owned 46% by Yamaha, 8% by Vietnam Forest Corp. (VINAFOR), 22% by a VINAFOR subsidiary and 24% by Hong Leong Industries Bhd., an investor in Yamaha's motorcycle manufacturing joint venture in Malaysia.
VINAFOR is a public company under the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
Yamaha Motor Vietnam aims to boost annual production to 250,000 units in 10 years' time including new models to be introduced later, Yamaha said.
