Philippine exports in Aug. rise 21.1 pc on yr
MANILA, Oct. 4 Kyodo Philippine exports rose 21.1% in August from a year earlier to 3.21 billion U.S. dollars, the National Statistics Office said Monday.
"This is the highest growth so far since the 22% increase in January this year," the office said.
Export earnings for January-August rose 14.7% from the year-earlier level, to 21.87 billion dollars.
The office said 53.7% of the August exports comprised electronics and electronic components, which grew 27% to 1.72 billion dollars.
Other top export earners for the month included clothing accessories, wiring used in automobiles, woodcraft and furniture, metal components, fresh bananas, coconut oil and petroleum products.
The United States remained the top destination for Philippine exports. Other major destinations included Japan, Taiwan, the Netherlands, Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Germany and South Korea.
