Bandwidth9 Selects Camstar's InSite Software for Optoelectronics Manufacturing - Brief Article
Camstar Systems Inc., a provider of e-manufacturing solutions for supply chain and production collaboration, announced that its InSite enterprise manufacturing management system has been selected for use by Bandwidth9 at its Fremont, CA plant. Bandwidth9 is pushing the envelope in optical performance through its work in the area of photonic components and subsystems, producing tunable fiber optic components and modules for the burgeoning wave division multiplexing (WDM) telecommunications market. InSite will be used by Bandwidth9 to control and manage the flow of product from semiconductor wafer fab through back-end component assembly and testing.
InSite is being installed at Bandwidth9 while the company is still in its manufacturing development phase. This will provide plant engineers with the information needed to maximize yields by fine-tuning their manufacturing processes, while also setting the stage for a smooth transition from engineering to production when full, high-volume production begins. InSite will support Bandwidth9's focus on yield management, quality control, and product traceability by collecting and storing complete production and test data at every step of the manufacturing process.
"Since our products will be used in demanding, high-usage telecommunications environments, it's very important that we exercise tight control over product quality, and be able to quickly remedy any problems that may arise," said Phil Worland, vice president of operations at Bandwidth9. "At the same time, we need to be able to immediately trace problems detected during product testing back to their source, so we can keep yields high and maximize our return on manufacturing investment."
InSite was selected by Bandwidth9 for its ability to provide a common solution to all phases of its manufacturing process, from production of the wafers to the assembly, testing and packaging of the final products - while retaining a simplicity that would not require excessive amounts of implementation effort.
"We looked at a lot of products before selecting InSite," Worland said. "InSite offered us all the flexibility we needed without imposing a lot of complexity onus. We also were impressed with the market share and momentum that Camstar has already established in optoelectronics, and felt they had the industry knowledge, leading-edge technology, and company resources to service and support us in the years to come."
