Stuart DavidStuart David Novelist and bass player with Belle and SebastianBook of the year: I've become quite obsessed about everything about the millennium. Of all the books I've read on it Stephen Jay Gould's Questioning the Millennium, is the best - he focuses on the way people become obsessed with numbers.
Book of the decade: Charles Bukowski's The Last Night on Earth Poems. It was one of the last books he ever wrote and it has a good simple style.
Book of the century: Jean Paul Sartre's Nausea. It has so many themes that are relevant like the modern day angst that I think most people in the previous century didn't have time to think about.
Worst book ever read: James Joyce's Dubliners. He didn't really have anything to say and just messed around with the form and filled it full of thoughts from his everyday life which were just dull and grey.
Whose next work do you most anticipate? It used to be Martin Amis but - although his latest publication Heavy Water and Other Stories was good - his last two novels were very disappointing.
