ROAD RAGE KILLING; Driver batters man with brick

A MAN on a pub crawl was murdered in a road rage attack - just for stumbling into a car as he staggered across a street.

Colin Beer, 42, only touched the wing mirror of his attacker's car as he weaved in between the traffic. But it was enough to cause the driver to screech to a halt in a sideroad and stride 150 yards back to attack Mr Beer.

He hit him across the head with a brick and as Mr Beer slumped to the ground he fractured the back of his skull on the pavement.

Yesterday police appealed for witnesses to contact them and issued a photofit of the 6ft driver who is about 30, with short brown hair and a goatee beard.

Pictures of his silver car, caught on a surveillance camera at traffic lights, are now being enhanced to try to identify the make, model and possibly the registration number.

Mr Beer had been drinking in at least three pubs in Plymouth in the hours before the killer struck in North Hill Road. He was seen weaving between vehicles. A blue BMW Z3 sports car in front of the silver saloon had to swerve to avoid him.

Mr Beer then brushed against the side of the silver car but he was not hurt and the wing mirror was undamaged. After the attack he was taken to a hospital but never regained consciousness and died on Friday.

Det Insp Mark Webster, who is leading the murder hunt, said the police wanted to talk to any pedestrians or drivers in North Hill Road at 6.15pm last Saturday.

"From what we know of Mr Beer he originally came from North Cornwall and was living in Devonport," he said. "We do not know whether he was working or not. He was a bit of a loner."
