HE SHOULD HAVE STOPPED
Susie Orbach, Women's Therapy Centre founderMY view is that the boy should have stopped in his tracks, but that jail sentence is a completely ridiculous response to this.
I do, however, believe that rape is rape. The boy did not realise the trouble he had got himself into by his actions and he should have done.
He needs counselling. It's serious not to be able to interpret somebody else's messages and not to be able to stop himself in a situation like this. He was 16 at the time and a boy of that age should have been able to stop.
I think he couldn't stop because of emotional and psychological reasons, and not because he's a bastard.
The fact that he could not means that he needs help.
Boys of that age need to learn in their sex lessons at school that "no" means "no".
They need to learn that when girls push them away they should not push back, even if it's in the middle of intercourse that she initially consented to.
Girls should also be taught that they should say "no" before, rather than in the middle, of sex.
