Football: LION KINGS; MILLWALL 5 OLDHAM 0: Five-star show by rampant
STEVE GRIFFITHSMILLWALL fired a warning to the First Division as they destroyed Oldham to clinch the Second Division championship.
Neil Harris and Paul Moody grabbed two goals apiece and Steven Reid was also on the score sheet with a contender for goal of the season as the Lions turned in a super show.
A sell-out crowd at the New Den was given conclusive proof that Millwall should have no fears about taking a step up to the First Division next season.
Veteran striker Moody opened the scoring in the 21st minute when he slid in to meet Harris's cross with a cool finish.
Lions' leading scorer Harris grabbed the second when he collected Lucas Neill's pass and brilliantly chipped Gary Kelly from the edge of the box.
Reid made sure there were no title jitters with a sensational 52nd- minute rocket - his 25-yard drive giving Kelly no chance.
Mark McGhee's side refused to take their foot off the gas and Moody added the fourth with a glancing header from Harris's cross in the 66th minute.
Tony Warner denied Oldham a consolation with two reflex saves from Barry Prenderville and Mark Allott.
As the South Londoners' passionate fans began their championship celebrations Harris notched his second from the penalty spot.
Substitute Marc Bircham was fouled by John Sheridan and Harris wasted no time in snatching the ball from Moody, who was on a hat trick.
Harris confidently swept the ball past Kelly to take his tally for the season to 28.
The final whistle sounded on a momentous campaign for Millwall and the celebrations began with the presentation of the championship trophy.
McGhee said: "I've been able to develop and take advantage of what was already in place at the club.
"There was no pressure today for the players but this will give them a great lesson for the future.
"It shows them what a great feeling it is to be champions and I've got no doubt they'll be ready to go next season."
