* The media attention on Dale Earnhardt Jr. is really starting to be a pain for some of us non-Earnhardt fans. Matt Kenseth has come across as the Rodney Dangerfield of NASCAR. Kenseth didn't get any respect last year while he was winning the championship.

* Perhaps Vinnie Iyer should review his choices for the top five MVP candidates in the NFL (TSN, May 31). His "MVP" quarterbacks include Michael Vick ("when he's healthy"), Matt Hasselbeck (a playoff bust) and Donovan McNabb ("this might be the year"). Hasn't Iyer been watching football the past few years? Do the words "two-time Super Bowl MVP" mean anything? Until the Patriots fail to dominate the league, Tom Brady is the MVP.

* How can you say Tennessee's Kevin Burnett is a better NFL prospect at outside linebacker than Texas' Derrick Johnson (TSN, May 31)? Johnson is a proven player who earned freshman All-American honors two years ago and All-Big 12 honors the past two years. He will be a four-year starter, yet you rate him below a player coming off a serious knee injury?

* I am bitterly disappointed that the University of Colorado reinstated football coach Gary Barnett. Though Barnett might not have condoned the activities at Colorado, he should have been aware that they were going on and taken appropriate action.

* With regard to Mike DeCourcy's article (TSN, May 24) on Quin Snyder and the NCAA investigation of the Missouri basketball program, perhaps the greater problem is the outdated rules and greed of the NCAA. Plus, the fact that mediocrity is constantly protected within nearly every aspect of leadership in our nation.
