Top five - NFL - Brief Article
Vinnie IyerThe five best offensive coordinators (not including head coaches who call plays):
1 Tom Moore, Colts. With more than 26 years of NFL coaching experience, he shows his savvy with his creative two-tight end sets and play-action package. He puts Peyton Manning in perfect position to execute against any scheme.
2 Charlie Weis, Patriots. He excels at making adjustments and going after defensive weaknesses. Weis is a big reason the Patriots can win with a ball-control running game or a wide-open passing game.
3 Brad Childress, Eagles. He saved the season by using a backfield committee to produce a strong running game. The adjustment took pressure off Donovan McNabb and provided rest for an injury-riddled defense.
4 Al Saunders, Chiefs, Saunders, who honed his craft under Mike Martz on the other side of the state, has engineered one of the NFL's most effective schemes despite the lack of an elite wide receiver.
5 Mike Heimerdinger, Titans, He has restructured the offense to take advantage of Steve McNair's all-around talent. The team now relies much more on McNair's downfield rockets and less on beat-up Eddie George.
