BRITAIN is leading plans to prevent our planet being destroyed by a giant rock from space, you reported last week. But I'm afraid the whole idea doesn't fill m e with confidence.

Science Minister Lord Sainsbury said part of the plan would be mass evacuation from the path of disaster. But he also admitted that a rock 330 yards wide could kill "everyone in Europe".

Under such circumstances, where on earth would we be evacuated to?
