Mark Adams' at The Movies: DVDs of the week
MARK ADAMSTHE WEDDING CRASHERS (12)
THE STORY: The comedy hit of 2005 follows the romantic entanglements of John Beckwith (Owen Wilson) and Jeremy Grey (Vince Vaughn) as they crash weddings in search of sex, booze and a good time... until John falls for bridesmaid Claire (Rachel McAdams).
THE EXTRAS: Deleted scenes, music videos, commentaries, trailers and behind-the-scenes items.
THE VERDICT: This extended "uncorked" version is a great (though often quite crude) comedy. Not one for the young ones, but still enjoyable.
THE PRICE: pounds 19.99
BAD NEWS BEARS (12)THE STORY: Ex-baseball player turned rodent- exterminator Morris Buttermaker (Billy Bob Thornton) accepts an offer to coacha little-league team made up of unwilling, unhappy (and in one case, disabled) kids, but simply drinks far too heavily until a rival coach winds him up so much that he resolves to make the team into winners.
THE EXTRAS: Sadly none. Which is a shame given the price.
THE VERDICT: This re-make of the Walter Matthau classic got slightly overlooked on big-screen release. It is actually great fun, closer to the crudeness of Thornton's Bad Santa than a cuddly kids film.
THE PRICE: pounds 19.99
KING KONG CLASSIC COLLECTION (PG)THE STORY: Four-disc set based around the original King Kong movie which Peter Jackson has just remade so wonderfully. You get the original 1933 classic with FayWray asAnn Darrow, the would-be movie star whoenchants a giant ape, plus the so-so sequels King Kong v Godzilla (1963) and King Kong Escapes (1968), a colourised original, and a 25-minute documentary.
THE EXTRAS: Theatrical trailer for the new King Kong film, plus a collectors' booklet. Great case folds out into the shape of
Empire State Building.
THE VERDICT: It is great to see the original film, though fans will wish this set featured missing footage from other editions.
THE PRICE: pounds 29.99
