Banker who swindled pounds 44,000 is spared jail

A CITY banker swindled pounds 44,450 in fake overtime payments over 10 months the Old Bailey heard today. However, Jason Kenny, 35, who falsely claimed the money between 2001 and last year for a spending spree, was spared jail and ordered to do 200 hours community service.

The judge, Mr Recorder Purnell QC, said guidelines indicated he should impose 15 months' jail because Kenny, from Enfield, had abused his position of trust. But he had taken the "exceptional course" because Kenny's loyal family and friends had pledged pounds 20,000 to help pay back the money.

Father-of-three Kenny admitted claiming 1,700 hours of work he had not done from the JP Morgan Bank, while working in the settlements office. He admitted 11 charges of false accounting and asked for 33 similar offences to be taken into consideration.
