PITY the "placemat", stuck in a time warp of hoary huntsman and faded Venetian vistas. No longer: designer Ella Doran's award- winning range of domestic details - which includes trays, crockery, roller blinds and wallpaper - has recently caught the eye at Heal's, for whom she has created this series of tablemats and coasters. The acrylic, laminated mats, featuring photographs of gas and electric hobs, exotic fruits, wood grains and pebbles against hand-painted backdrops, are heat resistant to 80C and slop-proof (that is, they can be easily wiped with a damp cloth).
