Mr. Jockularity
Cambridge KennyI won tickets to an NHL preseason game in a random drawing at my office. Would it be bad form to return the tickets so they could go to someone who might actually want them?
No. Bad form would be turning around and selling them on eBay. But bad form also would be returning the tickets with an accompanying ungrateful tone, as in, "An NHL preseason game? Are you kidding me? I'd rather let Stevie Wonder pick my teeth with a rusty nail!" There's a simple way to handle it: Thank the office God/Goddess of Ducats for his/her kindness and emphasize that what would really make you feel like a winner is being able to give the tickets to--how did you put it?--someone who actually wants them. There isn't a thing wrong with that. Then again, there's nothing wrong with accepting free tickets to a hockey game and trying something new.
